Tips for Cleaning a Stand Mixer

Cleanliness is next to godliness. So said someone, and this is why great food can truly be considered divine. But when the meal is prepared and the hunger satiated, there’s also the aspect of ‘cleaning’ that is just as important. Whether it is the kitchen utensils or even the implements used to prepare these meals, it is, no doubt, an important task that needs to be taken care of. Keeping them clean is just as important as using the right ingredients in the right quantity to prepare a scrumptious meal.

Simpler implements like knives, spoons, forks and plates and so on and so forth will not require much work to clean (with the help of a dishwasher) but when it comes to gadgets like portable or stand mixers, the approach has to be different. You must remember that cleaning these devices are important because not only do food bits collect in crevices that might hamper the performance of the device and worse still, even stop the device from working properly.
So taking care of these devices properly ensures that the device will last for many years, without a hitch, and continue to serve one of the most important functions in the kitchen which involves all kinds of mixing, beating and whipping.
So here are a few tips (in the form of steps) that you can help you clean your hand or stand mixer thoroughly and safely:

Tip #1: The first thing that you must do is to unplug the device from the electrical socket and then remove the attachments such as kneading paddles and mixing blades and so on and so forth. Wash the attachment in hot and soapy water so that residue of food still on these attachments will be removed easily.
Tip #2: With stand mixers, remove the bowl – and wash it with your hands or by placing it on the top rack of your dishwasher.
Tip #3: When it comes to the body of the stand mixer, DO NOT immerse it in water but wipe both the bottom and the visible surface with a damp cloth making sure that water does not get in contact with the motor of the mixer or the ports.
Tip #4: Ensure that you dry all the attachments and the stand mixer before you attempt to use it again.
Tip #5: Use a toothpick to remove food bits from hard-to-reach places or a toothbrush that are too stubborn to be removed by a damp cloth.
Tip #6: No matter what you do, always review the instruction manual of the device for directions on how to clean it. These instructions are there for a reason.
